Peri Kemp, Music Director

I have always felt at "home" in church. As a child I always sat by the organ in church because my mother was the church organist. She would say it was so she could keep an eye on me. I now know it was to give me an experience that has shaped my life to this day. I found that singing was where I needed to be and I have been on that road ever since.

I have an extensive choral background having been in church choirs since I was old enough to sing and singing with every choir I could in school and college. I also sang with the Choral Arts Ensemble which was the first professional choir in the Kansas City area.

Right after high school I toured Europe with an amateur production of "The Music Man" and I later toured Europe again with my college choir. During the summers in college I worked with the Missouri Repertory Theatre assisting with costuming and lighting.

After an extensive nonmusical period of my life a line from the movie "Iron Eagle" is what brought me back "home". That line is "God doesn't give people things He doesn't want them to use."

I was called to OPPC in 1999 and have been working with the choirs ever since.
